Michigan Named as State With Largest Online Market

The world of online casinos in the United States is thriving, and there is one clear winner when taking a closer look at which state is proving most successful. That honour goes to Michigan, with revenue in 2023 amounting to an astonishing $1.92 billion.

Indeed, if you broaden the discussion and look at the figures for gambling in the country as a whole, i.e. with offline and online markets combined, that figure rose to an amazing $66.5 billion, an increase of over 10% on 2022 numbers.

The rise in online casinos in the country was, of course, the subject of a positive impact following the global pandemic, which clearly saw a rise in the online option when brick-and-mortar establishments were not an available resource.

This was touched upon by David Foreman, the vice president of the AMA (American Gaming Association), who stated,

“We’ve seen a really big shift since the pandemic in terms of how people are gambling — people are gaming a lot more online today than they used to,” before adding,

“It’s a different experience for people; the online gaming experiences is enticing for folks who aren’t able to make it or travel to a casino,”

Foreman then went on to comment on the change in demographics on the casino floor,

“The average age of a person you see on a casino floor today is almost eight years younger than it was in 2019,”

Michigan continues to be the front-runner in the online casino market, and one can expect the state to continue on its upward trajectory in that regard.
